KUALA LUMPUR: In conjunction with World Day Against Child Labour, FGV Holdings Bhd (FGV) and non-government organisation Project Liber8 recently organised a workshop to promote greater awareness and understanding on child trafficking and child labour among students.

In a statement today, FGV said the workshop was participated by 117 students and teachers from public schools in Lahad Datu as well as personnel from FGV and its Community Learning Centres (CLCs).

"Recognising the importance of awareness among children on child trafficking, the agency formalised its adoption of the Advoc8 Module on Child Trafficking developed by Project Liber8, which will be implemented across FGV's CLCs.

"FGV and Project Liber8 emphasised their continued commitment to play a meaningful role in instilling awareness among children and contribute to the elimination of child labour," it added.

FGV Plantation Sector group divisional director Mohd Sarian Md Sahid said the company respects child rights and is fully committed to contributing to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) including eliminating child labour.

"We recognise that businesses have an obligation to play an important role in this regard and FGV has worked on various programmes and initiatives to promote child rights and child protection, including the establishment of the CLCs with the support of the Indonesian Government and development of relevant company policies," he said.
